A qualified electronic signature is an advanced electronic signature created using a qualified electronic signature creation device and certified by a qualified electronic signature certificate. Its legal force is equivalent to a written signature.

How to obtain a qualified electronic signature?

In Lithuania, qualified electronic signature certificates are issued together with personal identity cards by the Personal Document Issuance Center under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania, and the State Enterprise Center of Registers records qualified electronic signature certificates on USB cryptographic keys.

In Lithuania, qualified electronic signature certificates issued by the Estonian company SK ID Solutions AS can also be purchased, which are distributed together with the Smart-ID application or together with SIM cards of the operators AB Telia Lietuva, UAB BITÄ– Lietuva and UAB Tele2.

Documents signed with a qualified electronic signature have the same legal force as those signed by hand. Using this signature, you can receive various services in Lithuania: the most popular is to use qualified e-mail in online banking to approve financial transactions, as well as to receive electronic services of state institutions, which are provided through the e-government portal https://www.epaslaugos.lt/portal/ :
