Vilnius welcomes everyone from all over the world — and getting started here is easier than you might think.
If you’re from the EU, EEA, or Switzerland – good news! You can live and work in Lithuania freely, without the need for a special work permit.
If you’re a non-EU national, you’ll usually need a work permit and, in many cases, a national visa (type D) or a temporary residence permit before starting a job in Vilnius.

If you plan to work or study in Lithuania with a foreign diploma, you might need to have it officially recognized.
Academic recognition (checking if your qualification matches a Lithuanian one) is carried out by the Center for Quality Assessment in Higher Education (SKVC) and some universities.
The process is simple, usually takes about a month, and is free of charge — as long as your documents are in order.
